EPISODE FOUR
Nightmare House
A Real Ghost Encounter Told by Krystal Holmes and Tamathea Tubaya-Holmes
“I was too afraid to see what was in that attic.” In the fourth installment of The Strange Thing About: Ghost Stories, we hear a cautionary tale about the house you shouldn’t buy. Tamathea’s story is a chilling look at a 1997 haunting in Elkton, Maryland, that attacked both her finances and her family’s peace of mind.
The Attic Presence From the moment they moved in, the house felt heavy. Tamathea describes the constant sound of heavy footsteps and activity coming from a padlocked attic — a space so terrifying she refused to ever open the door.
The Red-Eyed Orb The haunting took a darker turn for Tamathea’s 6-year-old daughter, Krystal. While normally brave, Krystal became paralyzed with fear by her bedroom’s mirror closet and the attic door next to her room. She began having recurring nightmares of a “creepy skull in a giant orb” with beaming red eyes that moved closer every night.
A Forced Departure The haunting ended as abruptly as it began. Between the job loss and the mounting terror, the house was eventually lost to the bank. But for Tamathea and Krystal, losing the house was the only way to escape the nightmare.
